Dynamic Positioning Maintainer Revalidation

The Dynamic Positioning Maintainer Revalidation Course is designed for DP Vessel Maintainers (DPVM) who are required to maintain the validity of their certification under the standards set by the Nautical Institute.

As Dynamic Positioning systems continue to evolve, maintaining up-to-date technical competence is critical to ensuring system reliability, preventing failures, and supporting safe offshore operations.

This course provides structured refresher training focused on DP system maintenance, fault diagnostics, and technical reliability, ensuring that DP maintainers remain aligned with current industry standards.

  • Nautical Institute Compliance

Revalidation of a DPVM certificate is based on Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and sea time requirements defined by the Nautical Institute.

To revalidate a DPVM certificate, candidates must meet one of the following pathways:

    Pathway 1 (Experience Route)

    • Minimum 150 DP sea time days, AND
    • Completion of an NI-accredited CPD programme, AND
    • Successful completion of the NI DPVM Revalidation Online

    Examination Pathway 2 (Course Route)

    • If the candidate has less than 150 DP sea time days,
    • They are required to complete an NI DPVM Revalidation Course

  • Course Structure

The DP Maintainer Revalidation Course is designed to refresh and strengthen technical knowledge required to maintain DP system integrity.

    Training focuses on:

    • Review of DP system architecture and redundancy concepts
    • DP control systems and communication networks
    • Position reference systems and sensor performance
    • Power generation and distribution systems
    • Thruster control and propulsion interfaces
    • Fault diagnosis and troubleshooting techniques
    • Failure modes awareness and system reliability
    • Preventive maintenance and system testing procedures
    • Training includes technical case studies and system fault analysis based on real offshore scenarios.

  • Course Duration

The course is delivered over 4 days of structured technical training, consistent with industry practice for DP maintainer refresher programs and aligned with Nautical Institute accredited training frameworks

  • Pre-Requisite Requirements

To attend the DP Maintainer Revalidation Course, candidates should:

    • Hold a valid or expired DPVM certificate, OR
    • Have previously completed DP maintenance training

    Have experience working as:

    • Marine Engineer
    • Electro-Technical Officer (ETO)
    • Electrical or Automation Engineer onboard DP vessels

Possess a working understanding of marine electrical, control, and propulsion systems

  • Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the course, participants will be able to:

    • Refresh knowledge of DP system architecture and technical components
    • Apply structured troubleshooting techniques to diagnose DP system faults
    • Understand how system failures impact vessel position keeping capability Maintain DP system reliability through effective maintenance practices
    • Support onboard engineering teams in maintaining safe DP operations
    • Meet the training requirements for DPVM revalidation under Nautical Institute guideline
  • Who Should Attend

This course is intended for DP Vessel Maintainers, Marine Engineers, and Electro-Technical Officers who are required to revalidate their DPVM certification or refresh their technical competence in maintaining Dynamic Positioning systems.

The Dynamic Positioning Maintenance Course provides technical training for engineers and technical personnel responsible for maintaining and supporting Dynamic Positioning (DP) systems onboard DP vessels. This course focuses on the technical architecture, maintenance requirements, and troubleshooting procedures associated with DP control systems, sensors, propulsion interfaces, and power management systems.

The training supports engineers and Electro-Technical Officers working on DP vessels by strengthening their understanding of system reliability and equipment performance in offshore operations.

Monthly Course Schedule

We conduct both Basic and Advanced DP Courses monthly to ensure regular intake and flexible scheduling.

Each session maintains controlled class sizes to ensure quality instruction, structured simulator access, and proper performance assessment.

Dynamic Positioning is a safety critical role. The Nautical Institute pathway exists to ensure structured competence development. Our training centre delivers each stage in strict alignment with these standards.

Our Dynamic Positioning courses run monthly, providing regular intake opportunities so you can progress through your certification pathway without unnecessary delays.

Each course is delivered in small, controlled groups to ensure a high standard of instruction, dedicated simulator access, and thorough performance assessment.

All training is conducted in line with Nautical Institute requirements, ensuring every participant develops the level of competence expected for safe and reliable DP operations.

Whether you are entering the DP pathway or completing your revalidation, our consistent schedule allows you to plan your training with certainty.
